Summary: A dirt-poor girl is coming home from working a cleaning job at a pachinko parlor when she sees this ridiculously sexy bad boy trashing someone's car. He throws money at the owners of the car to make them GTFO, then throws money at her and tells her that she is his new "purchase" before tonguing the daylights out of her. What will happen... gee, I wonder. Borderline rape turned into tender-ish but still rape-like love? Come on dowwwnnnn!
Sexy images ahoy. This ain't a manga for your underaged or undersexed. (Oh, and spoilers too. Not as sexy.)
The Rundown: Shouei & Mio were childhood friends, even though she's dirt poor and he's super-duper rich. Through a case of mistaken identity, she gets kidnapped for ransom & ends up forcing herself to forget, which causes her to forget about how much they loved and cared about each other, etc. etc. Flash-forward to the present, when she finds out that the perfect boy at school that she has a crush on is the bad boy that 'bought' her in the night... and then he tries to rape her. Seriously. Like, at least two times in the first five chapters because somehow this is okay since they were childhood friends, and he is shocked, absolutely shocked at the fact she doesn't remember while he's trying to rip her clothes off and bone her while she screams in protest. (Pardon the run-on sentence, but my disbelief for this set-up CANNOT BE STRESSED ENOUGH. O_O) Throw in TWO possible incest plots, gay prostitution, a gardener turned murderous, and... God, this stuff is awful but it's so damn fun. lolBatshit crazy: Oh man. This series is so full of crazy and I love it for that. I think it's how people in this series rationalize things that really takes the cake for me. "I'm in love with my sister so I'm going to pretend to be her and climb into bed with her boyfriend so she can realize..." (Yeah, still not sure what that was supposed to prove?) "My father killed himself out of shame for kidnapping one of your family's members, so I'm going to work as a gardener for 90% of the series and bide my time until I can kidnap your girlfriend in the last 5 chapters!! Muahaha" (lolwut.) "I'm practically raping you because I thought you remembered our past together, teehee." Well okay, maybe the 'teehee' is a bit of an exaggeration, but you get the gist, right?
The tits come out on: Chapter 1, page 31. And they're the lead female character's to boot. Nothing to hide here! I like how she's telling him to stop but she's already arching and looking like she doesn't want him to stop, ever...
Sex, please: Chapter 25. I know, I can't believe they wait this long either! At least they wait until they think they're siblings by blood. Er. Vomit.
Fetish of choice: Several, actually--there are extremely graphic scenes like this one that involve him forcing himself on her that are borderline disturbing (or sexy, if that's your thing), or what I would call 'rape fetish.' She works part-time as a maid at his mansion, so the maid fetish as well as the 'master/servant' fetish are very visible... the 'sibling-love' fetish... I'm sure there are more, but these are the ones that creep me out the most?
The female lead: Omori Mio, an honest good-girl trying to make money for her brother & her mother in the hospital by working several jobs. Awwww. Honestly, she's just another bland shoujo heroine. Do-gooder. Humble. Sweet. Easily forced into sexual situations and then somehow enjoys it despite herself... ugh. Also has this annoying habit of calling Shouei 'The Prince' ALL the TIME, even after they're dating. It
The male lead: Jinnai Shouei, another 'complete dick--transform into--guy who loves you very, very much' walking stereotype. In the first five chapters alone, he forces himself on Mio three times and strips her topless twice. And then--bibbity bobbity boo--she becomes sick and he becomes so sweet. And aww, he only blushes when she takes off his glasses. He must be in love with her! Well, judging from the amount of sex scenes in this manga that is. It's amazing how many manga I've read that incorporate this 'jerk-ass can change with the RIGHT GIRL to be in love with'--but I suppose that is a secret wish among all women? There's probably a reason we only see this in fiction, girls... But I have to admit that he, as any bishounen, is very easy to look at anyway... shameless blogger feels shameless. =_=
The OTHER male lead: Omori Hinata, the little brother who isn't really a brother to Mio (not known at the beginning of the series). I like how it takes the manga-ka 30-some chapters for her to address the fact that Hinata constantly coming on to Mio wasn't really incest, haha, got you all there. Seriously though--kid is messed up. Sells his body to older guys for money, flirts with Shouei using his 'feminine wiles' (? lol) to... tempt him away from Mio, I guess... apparently he's supposed to be the 'scheming, manipulative one' but his ideas are so stupid I can't even give him credit. Whereas the two lead romantic characters are just stereotypical, I find Hinata poorly conceived and kind of hard to stomach--honestly, I skipped a lot of the pages during his sob stories. STFU girly boy.
Romance? Yeah, more like wtf, how is this remotely romantic to me. First Shouei starts off by manhandling her because he thinks Mio "remembers their past together," then she actually does remember the past and goes from shoving him away to accepting his pushy advances... at one point (ignoring Hinata's stupid plan to 'tempt him away from her') it becomes somewhat normalized until they discover that Shouei and Mio might actually be siblings due to his dad's infidelity omg wat. Oh, the drama! Oh, the heartbreak! Oh, I guess I'll have sex with you anyway--wait, WUT. THEIR LOVE IS NOT TO BE DENIED. Sorry, I know some people can handle the incest--indeed, there is a special (gross) section of manga dedicated to that kind of kink. But it totally squicks me, as it should ANYONE WTH A SIBLING.Awesome cheese? I wouldn't say this series has cheese as much as it has awful plot twists and planning. Mio's mother used to be a 'wet nurse' for Shouei since his mother died... and now wants Mio to take her place? WHAT. It might be an issue with the translators, or a word that is difficult to translate into English, but wet nurses breast feed. I was so confused... but apparently she means 'teach him manners,' which lasts all of 2 chapters before the notion is dropped like it was never mentioned. Ha. Shouei's gardener looks as if he's going to force himself on Mio at the end of this chapter only to walk away (with Shouei's intervention) at the beginning of this chapter and it's never mentioned again... until he shows how much he SRSLY HATES everyone in the last 10 chapters of the manga. It's inconsistent and exasperating to follow.
Oh, but each chapter is called a 'heat,' as in 'Heat 1, Heat 2,' etc. I thought that was pretty cheese. :)
Silver Lining: Shouei is very, very pretty. *^_^* And I guess you never know which contrived plot twist the manga will serve up next! I did manage to make my way through the whole thing, and it's almost 50 chapters, so it was bearable. Or I'm just sick. lolWhat Have We Learned Today?
Reality check: GIRLS DO NOT LIKE BEING RAPED. Just for clarification. The fact that I have to clarify this in the midst of this manga summary is just depressing...
Although this will reveal that I pretty much got through most of it, the ending is such a bunch of crap. It's like NOTHING HAS CHANGED.
ReplyDeleteThat's because it's referring to the beginning of the manga.
DeleteOmg thank you so much for your review! They are spot-on! I had to stop at chapter 9 because I couldn't stomach it anymore! 🤣
